The International Finance Corporation (IFC) – a member of the World Bank Group – is a leading global development institution focused on private sector investment in emerging markets. Its mission is to promote economic growth and job creation in developing countries.
Through its operations, the IFC works to strengthen the private sector in the Western Balkans by providing investment and advisory services. Its key areas of focus include:
-Enhancing the Investment Climate: Improving regulatory frameworks, reducing bureaucracy, and increasing transparency to attract foreign investment and support business growth.
-Access to Finance: Supporting financial institutions to provide credit to small and medium-sized enterprises, promoting entrepreneurship and innovation.
-Regulatory Reforms: Collaborating with governments to modernize laws and regulations, ensuring a level playing field for businesses and promoting fair competition.
-Institutional Capacity Building: Providing training and technical assistance to help build the capacity of local institutions, enabling them to effectively regulate and supervise the private sector.
As an International Development Finance Professional, you will play a crucial role in supporting the IFC's mission and objectives. Your responsibilities will include:
-Assisting the IFC team with research on political, macroeconomic, industry, and sector developments in Serbia;
-Supporting the formulation and execution of country strategies, preparing briefing materials, and developing partnerships with World Bank teams;
-Contributing to business development, due diligence analysis, financial analysis, and project monitoring, and participating in missions and project appraisals;
-Supporting advisory projects, working with economists and operations officers on activities like regulatory framework analysis, stakeholder identification, and event organization;
-Etc.
This position is part of the Swiss Youth at the United Nations / World Bank Group programme, sponsored by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). The International UN Youth Volunteer contract provides coverage for travel, relocation, and UN health insurance costs. A monthly living allowance is also paid.
Key qualifications for this role include:
-Master's degree in economics, finance, public policy, business, legal, organizational sciences, or related field;
-Demonstrated interest and/or experience in international finance/development, auditing, business consulting, mergers & acquisitions;
-Analytical and quantitative skills in economics and/or private sector development work, including financial analysis;
-Familiarity with the social and economic challenges of the countries in the Western Balkans and previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture;
-Fluent in English, knowledge of Serbian is an asset.
