Staff Engineer

Role
We're seeking an exceptional Staff Engineer to lead our stablecoin infrastructure and integration strategy. This is a highly technical, high-impact role where you'll architect and build the systems that use the power of stablecoins to advance our mission to eliminate cross-border friction.

As a Staff Engineer, you'll work at the intersection of traditional finance and decentralized technology, solving complex problems around liquidity management, cross-chain interoperability, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. You'll be a technical leader, setting standards and influencing architecture decisions across the engineering organization. To help us drive success and achieve business goals you will be responsible for designing, building, deploying and maintaining new long-term features and services that are both scalable and reliable.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Architecture

• Design and implement robust, scalable stablecoin infrastructure supporting multiple currencies (USDC, USDT, EURC, and emerging stablecoins) and blockchains across Ethereum, Polygon, Stellar, Solana, and other Layer 1/Layer 2 networks
• Implement the technical strategy for stablecoin custody, treasury management, and liquidity optimization
• Implement security standards and best practices for smart contract development, deployment, and monitoring

Stablecoin Protocol Development

• Build and maintain integrations with leading stablecoin currencies, blockchain infrastructure and their APIs
• Develop smart contracts for custom stablecoin functionality, escrow mechanisms, and automated settlement
• Implement multi-signature wallet solutions and secure key management systems
• Design and build integrations for real-time price feeds and reserves verification
• Create automated monitoring and alerting systems for on-chain and off-chain stablecoin operations

Payments & Settlement Infrastructure

• Build robust reconciliation and settlement connecting blockchain and banking rails
• Implement transaction routing and fee optimization strategies
• Design failover and disaster recovery mechanisms for payment continuity
• Develop real-time treasury management and liquidity rebalancing systems

Compliance & Risk Management

• Implement transaction monitoring, screening, and compliance controls for AML/CFT requirements
• Build address whitelisting, blacklisting, and sanctions screening systems
• Design audit trails and immutable logging for regulatory reporting
• Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to implement VASP and MiCA requirements and travel rule protocols
• Develop circuit breakers and risk management controls for anomaly detection

System Integration & Operations

• Build robust APIs and webhook systems for stablecoin functionality
• Integrate with banking partners, liquidity providers, and DeFi protocols
• Implement comprehensive observability, monitoring, and alerting infrastructure
• Optimize database design for high-volume transaction processing and blockchain data
• Lead incident response and post-mortem analysis for production issues

Team Leadership & Collaboration

• Mentor engineers across the organization on stablecoin technology and blockchain development
• Conduct thorough code reviews with focus on security, performance, and maintainability
• Collaborate with Product, Operations, and Compliance teams on feature development
• Contribute to engineering hiring, including technical interviews and role definitions
• Document architectural decisions, runbooks, and technical specifications

Requirements
Stablecoin & Blockchain Expertise

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with 2+ years working directly with stablecoins and blockchain technology
• Deep understanding of major stablecoin mechanisms: fiat-collateralized (USDC, USDT), crypto-collateralized (DAI), and algorithmic models
• Hands-on experience integrating with stablecoin APIs 3rd party infrastructure like Infura, Alchemy, Fireblocks or similar.
• Strong knowledge of EVM-compatible blockchains (Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base)
• Experience with alternative Layer 1 blockchains (Stellar, Solana, Algorand, or similar)

Technical Skills

• Expert-level proficiency in backend development (or ) - must)
• Strong experience with blockchain integrations, deploying basic smart contracts, different types of blockchain transactions, tokens,
• Deep understanding of cryptographic primitives, key management (HSMs, MPC), and wallet infrastructure
• Proficiency with event-driven architectures and distributed systems
• Strong database skills with both SQL and NoSQL systems
• Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines

Payments & Financial Systems

• Understanding of payment systems architecture (clearing, settlement, and recs)
• Knowledge of banking APIs, payment networks (SWIFT, ACH, SEPA, Faster Payments), and treasury operations
• Experience with financial compliance requirements, KYC/AML processes, and transaction monitoring
• Understanding of FX markets, liquidity management, and market-making fundamentals

Security & Best Practices

• Strong security mindset with experience in secure coding practices
• Experience with security auditing processes and working with external audit firms
• Knowledge of secure key generation, storage, and rotation practices

Leadership & Communication

• Ability to execute technical initiatives and influence architectural decisions
• Strong communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts
• Experience working in fast-paced startup or fintech environments
• Track record of mentoring engineers and elevating team capabilities
• Comfortable with ambiguity and ability to make pragmatic trade-offs
