Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Data Team Lead to unify our data frontend and backend teams into a single, cohesive unit. Reporting directly to the CTO, you will oversee our data engineering and analytics efforts, enforce technical standardization, and organize cross-functional teams for delivering high-impact, cloud-based projects.

This role is pivotal in driving architectural consistency, optimizing project delivery, and strengthening our capabilities in the Microsoft data stack, AWS, and Databricks. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with hands-on experience in solution design and delivery, and a mindset for innovation and excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a cross-functional data team, encompassing both frontend and backend developers. Foster a collaborative and accountable team culture.
• Solution Design & Architecture: Lead the design and architecture of scalable, secure, and maintainable data solutions. Evaluate and select appropriate technologies to meet project and client needs.
• Standardization: Develop and enforce coding standards, documentation practices, and data modeling conventions to ensure technical consistency across the team.
• Project & Technical Estimation: Collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide effort estimations, define technical scope, and assess feasibility of proposed solutions.
• Project Organization: Coordinate team assignments, timelines, and resource planning to ensure on-time and high-quality project delivery.
• R&D and Innovation: Drive research into new data tools, frameworks, and cloud services—particularly Databricks and AI-enhanced analytics—to support our evolving tech strategy.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the Web Domain Lead and DevOps Lead to ensure proper system integration, deployment practices, and platform governance.
• Client Engagement: Participate in client-facing activities such as requirements gathering, architectural discussions, solution presentations, and post-delivery reviews.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 7 years in data engineering, BI, or analytics roles, with at least 2 years in a leadership or team management capacity.
• Technical Proficiency: Deep knowledge of the Microsoft data technology stack (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Power BI, Fabric); Strong experience with Python for data processing, automation, or integration tasks; Familiarity with AWS and Databricks environments.
• Project Management: Proven track record of managing multiple complex projects, from planning to deployment, within time and budget constraints.
• Architecture Skills: Strong capability in designing data architectures, including ETL pipelines, data lakes, and modern analytics solutions.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts to business stakeholders.
• Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

Preferred Skills

• Certifications: Azure, AWS, or Databricks certifications are a strong plus.
• Methodologies: Familiarity with Agile/Scrum practices.
• Language Skills: Fluency in English; knowledge of German is an asset.
