The role

Evaluation is a key component of UCLPartners' work to accelerate research and innovation into practice. The Evaluation and Insights function supports health and care teams and innovators across our region to understand the impact of introducing innovations – from new technologies to the redesign of services – on patients and the public, health and care professionals, and the wider system.

The Data Analyst will work within our Evaluation and Insights function. The purpose of this role is to:

  • Contribute to the development of evaluation project plans
  • Develop data collection approaches and undertake data collection
  • Develop enhanced analytical tools and approaches to support effective interpretation and robust conclusions
  • Undertake analysis of the data collected or sourced for research, evaluation and/or programme purposes on a local, regional or national level
  • Summarise and share insights with relevant stakeholders to inform programme development and monitoring
  • Maintain the insights platform, updating data on an ongoing basis to ensure the latest information is included. The insights platform is a new service that will provide accessible information to both our internal teams and external collaborators; this role would be expected to contribute to supporting stakeholders to maximise use and benefit of the platform.

This role is an outstanding opportunity to have real impact on health and healthcare by supporting our partnership to gather insights on how and why solutions are successful, articulate the impact of our work and identify opportunities where solutions could have a wider impact on the health and care sector.

Key responsibilities

  • Support teams in obtaining health and administrative data for research and evaluation purposes
  • Create data specifications for evaluation and project work
  • Promote a collaborative approach, working with teams external to UCLPartners to arrange appropriate access to data
  • Ensure consistent approaches to data curation and cleaning
  • Conduct appropriate analysis as part of our evaluation projects
  • Maintain, develop and enhance the insights platform, updating data as required, and ensuring it meets the needs of the organisation and relevant stakeholders, evolving it over time to meet user needs
  • Embed a learning health system approach to our work, sharing findings and insights on an ongoing basis to inform improvements and change to a wide range of technical and non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrate good practice in information governance and data security

Within UCLP more broadly:

  • Support evidencing the impact of our work through our annual impact report and other publications
  • Foster strong working relationships with internal teams, our partners and wider system of stakeholders
  • Promote collaboration, teamworking and inclusivity.

You

  • An ability to rapidly learn and understand the requirements specific to the health and care sector
  • Understanding of key statistical concepts and data linkage methodologies
  • Experience of conducting analysis of structured and unstructured datasets, including large datasets and survey data
  • Proficient in analytical, statistical and data management software to an advanced level, ideally with experience of using open source technologies such as (but not limited to) R and/or Python
  • Experience of creating effective, audience appropriate, data visualisations, ideally working with Tableau
  • Excellent analytical, time-management, and organisational skills, and attention to detail
  • Able to confidently manage a portfolio of projects, delivering results consistently on time and to an excellent standard
  • Creative, inquisitive and logical thinker, looking for opportunities to add value beyond the immediate delivery requirements of the work portfolio
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently without supervision, making decisions or requesting support as appropriate
  • An understanding of the importance of patient, carer and community involvement in the evaluation of health services and health innovations
  • A strong commitment to equity, and diverse and inclusive teams and principles
  • Ability to convey complex information to a diverse range of audiences, communicating clearly and confidently
