Senior BI Business Analyst

Boylesports is the largest and most successful independently owned bookmaker on the island of Ireland. Founded in 1989 by John Boyle, the business has grown to over 370 shops in Ireland and the UK, coupled with a comprehensive online portfolio for betting and gaming.

We're looking for an experienced Senior BI Business Analyst to join our BI Data Engineering team in the dynamic and highly competitive sports betting and gaming industry. This role will be responsible for bridging the gap between business requirements and technical implementation, working closely with stakeholders across the organization to gather requirements, analyse existing data solutions, and create detailed technical specifications for data engineering teams. The ideal candidate has extensive experience as a business analyst on large data warehousing projects, strong technical skills in data modelling and SQL, and the ability to work autonomously in complex data environments.

This role will work with BI Managers across all business departments including Sportsbook, Trading, Finance, Gaming, Compliance & Payments, Marketing, Acquisition, CRM, Retail, and Loyalty programme.

Key Responsibilities:

Requirements Analysis & Documentation

• Gather and analyse business requirements from BI Managers and business stakeholders across all departments
• Create comprehensive requirements documents, technical specifications, and user stories for data engineering implementation
• Analyse existing data warehouse solutions and Tableau reports to understand current data flows and dependencies
• Develop source to target mappings and data lineage documentation
• Work closely with the project manager and Senior BI Data Engineering Manager to ensure alignment on deliverables

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

• Collaborate primarily with BI Managers and their teams aligned to different business functions (Sportsbook, Trading, Finance, Gaming/Compliance/Payments, Marketing, Acquisition, CRM, Retail, Loyalty programme)
• Engage with IT teams and business stakeholders as needed to clarify requirements and validate solutions
• Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure clear understanding of requirements
• Work closely with the technical data architect and senior data engineers on solution design

Technical Analysis & Design

• Analyse current data warehouse architecture and identify opportunities for improvement
• Apply data warehouse design principles including Kimball methodology to solution design
• Explore various databases autonomously to understand data structures and relationships
• Use SQL skills to investigate data quality issues and validate requirements
• Review and understand existing Tableau reports and data extraction processes

Solution Specification & Delivery

• Translate business requirements into detailed technical specifications that data engineers can implement
• Ensure all specifications include appropriate data governance and quality controls
• Support testing and validation activities during solution implementation
• Maintain documentation and ensure knowledge transfer to relevant teams

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field
• 8+ years of experience as a business analyst on large data warehousing projects
• Strong understanding of data warehouse design principles including Kimball methodology
• Proficient SQL skills with ability to explore and analyse complex database structures autonomously
• Strong data modelling skills and experience with dimensional modelling concepts
• Experience working with BI tools such as Tableau, with ability to understand report structures and data sources
• Excellent English communication skills with ability to create detailed documentation and communicate effectively with international teams
• Proven ability to create detailed technical specifications and requirements documentation
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
• Experience working with cross-functional teams including IT, business stakeholders, and technical teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the sports betting, gaming, or gambling industries
• Experience with Agile project management methodologies and Scrum frameworks
• Basic understanding of third-party data sources and integration concepts at high level
• Business architecture experience and understanding of enterprise architecture principles
• Knowledge of ETL processes and data integration tools (ODI preferred)
• Experience with Oracle database environments
• Understanding of compliance and regulatory reporting requirements
• Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth environments
