Bookkeeper / Tax Advisor & Compliance Officer
to join us in our Novi Sad office.
Role Overview
You will manage bookkeeping, DOO accounting, payroll, tax guidance, and compliance tracking for
foreign-owned Serbian companies
formed through Relocation Serbia. This is a hybrid role that combines accounting accuracy with excellent English communication and client-facing clarity.
You will work daily with the
COO
and report directly to the
CEO
.
Key Responsibilities
1. Bookkeeping & DOO Accounting
- Maintain monthly bookkeeping for client DOOs and entrepreneurs.
- Perform bank reconciliations, transaction classification, and ledger reviews.
- Prepare monthly and annual financial statements for submission by certified accountants.
- Track VAT thresholds and notify clients when registration is required.
- Maintain clean, audit-ready documentation for every client.
2. Payroll & Contributions
- Prepare payroll and contribution calculations for client companies.
- Provide clear payroll breakdowns and compliance timelines.
- Coordinate with certified accountants for final filing.
3. Tax Advisory Support (Client-Facing)
- Explain Serbian tax residency rules, income tax, corporate tax, VAT, and entrepreneur regimes.
- Summarize relevant Double Tax Treaty implications using internal templates.
- Support clients with compliance questions related to Serbian tax regulations.
- Research cross-border tax questions under the guidance of our internal CFO agent and legal partners.
4. Compliance Oversight
- Build and maintain compliance calendars for each client:
- Tax filing deadlines
- VAT deadlines
- Payroll submission dates
- Annual reporting obligations
- Ensure timely reminders and escalate risks before deadlines are missed.
- Monitor client regulatory obligations and maintain structured records.
5. Internal Coordination
- Work closely with the COO on onboarding, documentation, and operational workflows.
- Provide clear weekly updates to the CEO and COO on client compliance status.
- Maintain accurate client data inside the CRM and internal tracking systems.
Required Qualifications
Must-Have
- 3–7 years experience in Serbian bookkeeping or accounting.
- Strong understanding of DOO and entrepreneur accounting rules.
- Experience preparing payroll and contribution calculations.
- Solid working knowledge of Serbian tax laws.
- Excellent written and spoken English (mandatory).
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and follow-through.
- Ability to explain accounting and tax concepts clearly to foreign professionals.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience working with foreign clients or foreign-owned Serbian companies.
- Familiarity with Double Tax Treaties.
- Knowledge of VAT law and compliance processes.
- Multi-currency accounting experience.
- High comfort with digital tools, CRMs, and structured workflows.
